I spent the morning watching over an exibition of old postcards of Positano, down near the beach by the tourist office. Here are a few of my favourite postcards, showing how the town was over 100 years ago.

Here's a view from the beach towards the 'lion steps', before the Tre Sorelle and Buca di Bacco restaurants were opened:
Looking down towards where the Caporale restaurant is today, at the top end of the pier. The next village along the coast isn't even there!
A view of the oldest part of the town and the original road before it was widened:

  1. Feliz Navidad!!!

    (Merry Christmas in Spanish..)

  2. Wow what a difference!
Merry Christmas Niki, Carlo and Poppy.

  3. It was a beautiful town back then too, but not nearly as crowded... ;)
Don't you just wish you could go back in time and experience what it was really like?

Merry Christmas, hugs and kisses to all of you!!

  4. Buon Natale Niki. The postcards are wonderful. Hope Santa brings all of you joy and love at this holiday season.

  5. Lovely! Merry Christmas to all of you.

  6. Beautiful pictures! Life looked a lot simpler back then. Hope that you all had a very Merry Christmas!

  8. Niky, all the best for you and your family in 2008! Thank you so much for your blog. It's interesting, inspiring and friendly.
can't wait for you to tell us about your very prosperous business.

    Happy 2008!

  9. auguri :) say hi to poppy and carlo...
