Early this morning Peppe turned up on our doorstep with a gift; fresh cherries and berries picked from his garden and wrapped in fig leaves. Yum.

PS Update on the courier. They couldn't be bothered to climb the steps to my house so stopped the first person they found on the street and left my delivery with him. Luckily for me it was someone I know and he handed over my package a day later. It is still a mystery as to why the delivery was logged as 'missing', but at least I got it.

  1. Bit confused Nik..did you get the item that was meant to be inside??

Lots of posts being written about their lovely neighbours/friends giving gifts of fruit..cherries on here, plums in Sicily. What great neighbours....

I never see my neighbours, in fact I hardly see anyone at all...Britain is a culture of keep yourselves to yourselves..

  4. I know what you mean about the post. My postman has twice left a parcel on the street when I wasn't in - luckily nobody took it though but it's hardly a good idea.

  5. Your photo of the fruit is gorgeous! It must be so frustrating to never know if your packages will arrive intact.

  6. If it makes you feel any better... Years ago in the US, when I was organising visa paperwork to the UK, my postman left my parcel with my downstairs (delinquent druggie) neighbour. Neither he nor the neighbour realised that it contained no less then twelve of my most sacred original documents: passports, birth certificates, parents' birth certificates, father's death certificate, etc etc. I was out of my mind with rage that he'd just left it with any old stranger, and overcome with relief that the neighbour never realised what it contained!
