Positano beach gym

After my disastrous attempt to run the last couple of kilometres of the Rome Marathon earlier this year, in May I decided to start running again. So to inspire myself I went and signed up for a 10km run in November. That would keep me training, I thought... Obviously I didn't take into consideration where I live and the fact that there are not very many flat areas to run on. Around me it looks mostly like this:

So I have spent rather a lot of time this summer running in circles around the football pitch in Montepertuso...Which. Is.Very.Boring...
The other evening we were invited to dinner at a friends house in Praiano. We arrived in the main square just as the sun was disappearing behind the peninsular:
It was a warm evening so we opted to eat on the roof terrace..well, wouldn't you with a view like this?
During dinner Roberto (who is a brilliant fitness instructor with a gym in Praiano) told us that he had reopened the summer gym on Fornillo Beach in Positano. He said he'd be there on Tuesday so why didn't we come along and have a go? Well, why not?
So on Tuesday morning we set off from home, our destination shimmering with patches of turquoise way below us...
You'd think with all the climbing up and down mountains we do that the gym would be the last thing on our minds...
But then again... when your gym has a view like this...
And also a temporary summer solution to my where-to-run problem, I snapped up a summer membership straight away!
Muscle Beach (I know!) is open to everyone from early in the morning until after sunset. You can buy a day pass or a weekly or monthly pass. It is easy to find, just behind the Grassi Beach Bar on Fornillo Beach for the rest of the summer.

  1. Classiest gym that I've ever seen. Much better than the dreary concrete walls that I see. Good luck. Don't push it....
